Apollotech provides a wide range of environmental services to numerous clients. Our long-standing customers include government agencies such as the Ministry of the Environment, municipal Environmental Protection Bureaus, the Industrial Park Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and the Department of Chemistry of the Ministry of the Environment. We also work with both public and private companies, including CPC Corporation, CPDC, Taiwan Fertilizer, Taipower, and Formosa Plastics Group. Over the years, we’ve successfully completed numerous remediation projects across various sites, including operational and abandoned factories, petrochemical plants, gas stations, contaminated farmland, and waste disposal or landfill sites.
Representative Case Studies
After the shutdown of CPC's Kaohsiung refinery in November 2015, the plant was gradually dismantled. To promote industrial transformation and attract major semiconductor manufacturers such as TSMC, the Kaohsiung City Government expedited pollution remediation efforts to revitalize the land. Apollotech was contracted in 2021 to manage the remediation of Area 4-2. Despite challenging conditions, the project was completed within 458 calendar days, and in April 2024, we successfully announced the de-listing of the Area 4-2 pollution control site.
This chlor-alkali plant was built in 1942, followed by the establishment of a pentachlorophenol plant in 1960. The facility, covering an area of 37.1 hectares, was shut down in 1982. In its early years, improper treatment of wastewater from the mercury electrolysis cells and disposal of pentachlorophenol by-products led to complex contamination of the soil and sediments in nearby ponds, with mercury and dioxins. The high concentration and large volume of the contamination significantly increased both the cost and complexity of the remediation. Apollotech analyzed the characteristics of these inorganic and organic pollutants, developing an innovative soil washing method, combined with an indirect thermal desorption process, to effectively reduce the overall remediation costs. This system remains operational to this day.
In line with urban development plans and pollution control requirements, we collaborated closely with the client to promptly address site contamination. Following a comprehensive pollution assessment, we excavated the contaminated soil and significantly reduced the volume of off-site disposal by employing screening and bioremediation techniques. Our implementation of green remediation methods—environmentally friendly bioremediation technologies—effectively lowered pollutant concentrations, enabling the treated soil to be safely backfilled on-site, supporting the goal of sustainable soil resource management.
This project, the Ministry of the Environment’s first chlorinated solvent contamination remediation demonstration, employed a phased and zoned remediation strategy. The initial phase focused on controlling the pollution source and containing the most heavily contaminated areas. Using a 'precision remediation' approach, we integrated intelligent surveys, targeted injections, and resistive probing techniques. Real-time site feedback allowed for adjustments to the injection design, ensuring successful remediation within the project timeline. Over two years of post-remediation monitoring confirmed that pollutant concentrations remained below regulatory thresholds, with no signs of rebound.
