Land Quality Improvement Project for a Steel Smelting Plant

Revitalization of Polluted Land at a Closed Steel Smelting Plant

Strategic Planning for Soil Remediation
Expert Project Management Ensured On-Schedule Completion

Site Background

The site, a former steel smelting plant, is located on an area in New Taipei City, that the Zhonghe-Xinlu Metro Line passes through.

Pollution Status

In 2011, the Environmental Protection Bureau New Taipei City Government classified the site as contaminated with heavy metals, specifically cadmium, chromium, copper, nickel, lead, and zinc. The total site area is approximately 23,000 m2.

Remediation Approach

ApolloTech initiated the remediation project in 2011, encompassing pollution investigation, remediation planning, and execution. Our work received verification from the Environmental Protection Bureau New Taipei City Government in 2013, leading to the site's de-listing. ApolloTech assisted the client in transforming the previously contaminated land, enabling successful redevelopment and reuse.

Portable XRF for Precision Pollution Removal

ApolloTech’s on-site experts utilized portable XRF devices to conduct real-time soil quality assessments during excavation. This approach ensured comprehensive removal of polluted soil while minimizing the risk of over-excavation of non-contaminated areas, effectively managing the volume of soil needing treatment.
